All too often Open Source developers discover that they are infringing a patent after they receive a cease and desist letter. Many times, this results in fighting patents after they have been granted which is both a time consuming and an expensive task.  Fortunately, there are tools available for the community to take action and interfere with these patents before they are awarded.  A Knowledge Cultivator will be taught how to recognize these threats and help identify Open Source communities who would have the expertise in removing these threats. 

Duties

• Discovery- Uncover patent applications that could pose potential threats to the community. 
• Development- Learn how to utilize the tools available to combat these threats. 
• Awareness- Build networks of communities who can identify evidence against patent applications
