**Me**

I am a lawyer by training (German bar admission) with over 15 years of experience in public licensing models. I served as Director for Creative Commons International overseeing and stewarding the Creative Commons global licensing suite and managing the global license porting project. From 2010 to 2014 I also served on the WEF Global Agenda Council on the Intellectual Property system and as a faculty associate at the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society, Harvard University.

Over the past 8 years, I have focused on Open Source compliance and governance questions and helped to initiate the [[OpenChain project>>url:https://www.openchainproject.org/]], which has just become an official ISO standard (ISO/IEC 5230) to bring efficiency and trust into the Open Source supply chain. I have founded the Software Compliance Academy to support clients in their Open Source journey and written and taught extensively on IT policy and standardization questions and especially the intersection between Open Source software and standards (aka legal or political obstacles? J). Currently, I serve on the Council of the Legal Network at the Free Software Foundation Europe and as strategic advisor for MBition, a Daimler subsidiary based in Berlin.

I have realized that being a lawyer is not always the best approach towards trouble-shooting or conflict resolution, and I have done additional training and work in mediation, which has helped me tremendously to navigate through many different challenges and to find constructive solutions.

**Why**

I am running for the OSI Board of Directors because I would be delighted to support OSI in

* becoming even more visible in industry channels and policy fora

* counterbalancing already existing industry networks and trade associations

* leading in Open Source stewardship through definition, licensing guidance, and respect

* mediating fundamental issues and debates about the future of Open Source

* growing as an organization and securing the resources for a sustainable organization

**What**

If elected, I would like to bring in my network of industry leaders, foundational, and academic partners and work with existing partners and supporters to expand OSI’s impact and visibility. Adding a strong, consistent, and well-informed voice to the ongoing debate around Open Source and how it can be defined and defended is still one of the most critical challenges we have to face even if (or perhaps because) Open Source has become so natural and widespread across the different industries.

I will be working with the existing team and other board members to develop a clear strategy for organizational growth and corresponding fundraising initiatives. One of the core milestones I would like to implement is to cultivate sustainable industry support through unrestricted gifts and/or different membership models and to initiate donor relationships with foundations.

Finally, it’s my aim to bring the idea and the core value of the Open Source software development model to the next generation of leaders. I strongly believe that we need to get questions on ethics and Open Source software development into the curriculum of our Universities around the world so that the next generation of engineers and decision makers can benefit even more from the groundwork that the OSI has accomplished over the past years.
