Mr Jacob Clark Dip HNDip MBCS - Open Source Software Developer

By day I am a Software/Web/Operations/Site Reliability Engineer.

I have several years experience within the industry working with large national and international clients developing bespoke business critical applications through Open Source software, those clients included: Liverpool John Lennon Airport, Persil, McBride Group, Advanced Foster Group, Wigan & Leigh College, Barton Park and Just 4 Rugby.

I dedicate a large portion of my free time to volunteering in my local community both in and out of the I.T profession. I'm a representative of the Young Professional Group and Committee Member of the British Computer Society's Manchester Branch, a STEM Ambassador and supporter of the Free Software Foundation and the Open Source Initiative.

I operate an organisation teaching computer science and software development, whilst promoting the use and development of open source software to young aspiring developers under 18 within my local community.

Memberships, Charity and Volunteering Involvement:

  • British Computer Society - Young Professionals Representative & Committee Member.
  • STEM Ambassador, promoting Computer Science education through the UK to under 18s.
  • Global Charity Volunteer, utilising my skills in I.T and Open Source to help improve the lives of others.
  • Raspberry Pi, promoting STEM and Computer Science through the £25 mini-computer.

Why I'm running:

I believe Open Source software is at the centre of our advancement in computer software, hardware and technology. From home hardware hacking with tools such as the Open Source Arduino to large enterprise business applications with tools such as PHP and Linux, Open Source affects us all and I would love the opportunity to aid the Open Source Initiate in promoting the use of Open Source, it's benefits and how it affects our technology community as a whole. I believe I'm a fantastic communicator, my experience working within committees, charities and volunteering posts I feel makes me a perfect candidate for these 2014 elections.
