OSI Website Page Improvements
Version 1.2 by Patrick Masson on 2013/11/29 21:35
A variety of website improvements have been proposed/requested by Luis on the license-discuss list. Working drafts for the page revisions are linked here so that they can be discussed/reviewed/improved:
What is Open Source?
We lack a single page that defines open source (as opposed to defining criteria for open source licenses). It has been suggested that opensource.com/resources/what-open-source and http://onlamp.com/pub/a/onlamp/2005/09/29/what-is-free-software.html might be good references in drafting this page.
- What is open source
- What is free software
- Open source equals software freedom, not free software
- Don't be fooled by phony 'open source'
Interpretation of the Open Source Definition
- OSD interpretation. Resources from mailing archives, frequently asked and/or relevant questions. Potentially useful for FAQ updates or OSD annotated.
Bibliography
- Bibliography The current bibliography is solid but has not been updated since 2005.
Open Source Business Case
- The "case for business" This refers to "Frank Hecker of Netscape". Frank is a great guy but hasn't been
with “Netscape” in over a decade, or Mozilla for four years
License Application "How to"
- License application HOWTO We lack a good HOWTO for applying licensing information. Such a thing could link to SFLC's guide on the subject (or Karl Fogel's brief one in his book Producing OSS) but it should probably be useful on its own. Useful questions for OSI wiki to answer: old license-discuss email.
